SURFER STACEY MAC

Stacey Mac and her father Charlie started SUP SONAS and Sonas Vacations in 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and it quickly expanded into Costa Rica. 
Stacey always loved her boards!  They were an extension of her. She was an avid snowboarder and in the mid-2000s, she traveled great distances for powder until her Dad said, “Why don’t you surf?  Then you won’t have to pay those expensive lift tickets!”  It was a revelation. She got on her first longboard surfboard at the young age of 42 and went straight into surfing stand up paddleboards, also called stand up paddlesurfing or SUP SURF.
Peter Pan of the Eastern Surfing Association asked her to compete in the longboard competition, but she refused, since stand up paddlesurf is much different. He opened the first ever SUP SURF division for her in the Eastern Surfing Association’s Southern New England Division, which she won against all men. She was invited to compete in the Costa Rica Nationals and to and “invitational only” in Sayulita, Mexico, to compete against the best women in the world. 
By age 53, eleven years later, she was one of 100 or so women in the world who were invited to take the Surf Judge Course with the International Surf Association (“ISA”) and attended in 2020.  She also attended the ISA longboard surfboard course in 2020 and has been teaching beginner longboard surfing and stand up paddleboarding and SUP SURFING since 2011.
